Oil Painting Intermediate – Impasto Technique

Intermediate Level Oil Painting with Owner/Artist Rose Jarecki is great place to continue your exploration of oil painting techniques.

This is a 2 session class.

In this class intermediate level students will learn how to control the thickness of the oil paint using mediums and unique painting methods.

Not your grandmothers oils, the materials are AP non-toxic and smelly turpentine has been replaced by citrus turpinol, creating a clean and safe environment.  For beginners, we script 4 images in 4 weeks, providing you a fantastic base of knowledge.  Continuing to intermediate levels, you select the technique/subject and Rose guides you to your goal through an examination of technique and sidebar drills.  Your fee includes the paint and canvas, mediums. Students are required to have their own brushes.  Call us for the required brush list.

A bit more about this technique:

Impasto refers to a method of painting that applies paint directly to canvas or hard board substrate thickly – producing shadows and preserving brush strokes.  Particularly well suited for oil media, impasto can also be achieved using acrylics and thickening medium.  Vincent van Gogh’s well known Starry Night as well as many of Rembradt’s paintings employed this technique.  Impressionistic paintings often make use of impasto techniques.
